Dynasty Warriors - Pursuing Lu Bu is a fun way to die.

Ever since clearing Raidou Kuzunoha vs The Soulless Army late last month, I've been taking it easy with video games as of late. While everyone is out playing their Portal Twos, their Call of Duties, and their Halos, I'm here playing Dynasty Warriors 4 Hyper on my PC. And I wouldn't trade the experience for any other game right now.

For those who have never heard of this franchise, Dynasty Warriors is a hack-and-slash game that takes place during the "Three Kingdoms" era of ancient China. You take control of an officer, usually a historical figure of some sort, and just lay the smackdown on anything and everything around you. It's really a game that you're just going to love or hate. It's because of this "love or hate" quality of the game that many game reviewers give the series mediocre scores and often complain about the qualities of which many DW fans are quite fond of.

Really, if you are ever curious about the series then just give a game a try as game reviews are just full of angst. Pick any one of them! Dynasty Warriors 7 is the latest game in the series, and there's also the spin off series Samurai Warriors. Really, you can't go horribly wrong with any game since they're almost the same exact thing, save for a few notable differences among each of them of course.

A tradition among Dynasty Warrior games is death incarnate, otherwise known as Lu Bu (pictured above). Whenever he shows up on a map, stay the hell out of his way because he will END YOU. Every officer in the game tells you to not pursue him because that's just suicide. Seriously, I tried fighting him and he's pretty much a god compared to my low-level character. There are stories of people actually beating the guy though but they could be just that: stories. It doesn't matter what game, he'll be a challenge in every game you run across him, but he's beatable. But the real fun begins when you finally unlock him as a playable character!

"CAN NOBODY PROVIDE ME WITH A DECENT CHALLENGE?!" - Lu Bu

No, I'm afraid not, Lu Bu. I'm afraid not.

  2. Haven't played video games in a while either but I had no idea they had Dynasty Warriors on PC. Might just have to pick it up and give it a try. I used to play the old ones on PS2 and had a great time with them.

  13. Oh my God, this game again.
Personally, I started playing Samurai Warriors first so I prefer it over Dynasty Warriors.

But I had to face Lu Bu for a boss once and it was hell...

  14. Such a great franchise. They make (almost) all of the elements work perfectly, in such a way that you never really grow tired of the games. The replay value is phenomenal, and here I am sitting and thinking everyone had forgotten.

Lu is up there on my list of most infamous NPC's. Right above Diablo, a few spots under Donkey Kong (arcade)
