Terraria - Dig holes! Fight Zombies! DIG MORE HOLES! Fight Skeletons! DIG YOURSELF TO HELL!

You want to know the game I've been playing these past couple of days? Well this is it. I got the game as a gift, and at first I was skeptical because the sprites looked like they were ripped straight out of Final Fantasy and I never really played Minecraft outside of the free demo on the website. But this game. This freaking game. It's way more fun than it has any right to be.

This is the world I live in.  And it's only a SMALL world.  I shudder to see a MEDIUM or LARGE one.
Terraria is often described to be something of a 2D side-scrolling Minecraft. I'm not entirely sure how true that is, because again, I never played Minecraft. Instead of building, the game heavily emphasizes combat and exploration. Sure you can build houses and stuff, but the real star of the game is the digging and finding treasure!

Hiding from a Zombie in my house
Me and a couple of friends started on a randomly generated world and from there we were in charge of our own destiny. Started off with a small house just to protect us from the nightly zombie attack, and then we started digging into the earth looking for priceless jewels and ores to craft into awesome weapons to fight more zombies with! As mentioned before, we played this game for 10 hours straight on the first day and we accomplished ABSOLUTELY NOTHING but we sure as hell had fun doing it!

This game isn't the best looking, but the sprites grow on you after a while, it feels like you're playing Zelda II: Adventures of Link coupled with Metroid-like exploration with the digging excitement of Dig Dug! The game is pretty much $10 on Steam, it's up to you if you think it's worth it or not. I'd think it's worth at least 4 times that amount, but I'm not going to try to sway you. Check it out if you want, maybe we can trade sometime. Here's the trailer:

Samurai Warriors - Pursuing Tadakatsu Honda is a fun way to die...

Dynasty Warriors is fun and all, but too much of it can start to wear on you. So I decided to play something different and play Samurai Warriors 2 on the PC instead!

"Hey wait a second! Dynasty Warriors and Samurai Warriors are the same thing!" Well, sure if you want to be boring like that, but it's a whole new world! For those who don't know, Samurai Warriors takes place during the "Sengoku" era of Japan. So, compared to Dynasty Warriors, it offers completely new characters and a completely different story in a completely different setting. Though, you probably won't be able to tell the difference if you still think China and Japan are the same things.

I don't know why, but the aesthetics featured in Samurai Warriors prove to make the game quite refreshing yet still staying familiar at the same time. The music is the first thing I think about when comparing both Dynasty Warriors and Samurai Warriors. Dynasty Warriors has a soundtrack that features both wailing electric guitars and traditional Chinese instruments giving the game a fun and energetic vibe. Samurai Warriors uses traditional Japanese instruments such as the "Shamisen" along with electronic synth which is certainly more understated than Dynasty Warriors, but I feel it compliments the hectic atmosphere perfectly. Here's a song that gives you an idea of what to expect in the game, it's not catered towards everyone's taste for sure, but if you dig the "shamisen", you might like it:

I'm planning on picking up Samurai Warriors Chronicles for the 3DS soon. I honestly need to use it as I have yet to buy a single game for it! Oh well, I hope you guys have a fun weekend.

Dynasty Warriors - Pursuing Lu Bu is a fun way to die.

Ever since clearing Raidou Kuzunoha vs The Soulless Army late last month, I've been taking it easy with video games as of late. While everyone is out playing their Portal Twos, their Call of Duties, and their Halos, I'm here playing Dynasty Warriors 4 Hyper on my PC. And I wouldn't trade the experience for any other game right now.

For those who have never heard of this franchise, Dynasty Warriors is a hack-and-slash game that takes place during the "Three Kingdoms" era of ancient China. You take control of an officer, usually a historical figure of some sort, and just lay the smackdown on anything and everything around you. It's really a game that you're just going to love or hate. It's because of this "love or hate" quality of the game that many game reviewers give the series mediocre scores and often complain about the qualities of which many DW fans are quite fond of.

Really, if you are ever curious about the series then just give a game a try as game reviews are just full of angst. Pick any one of them! Dynasty Warriors 7 is the latest game in the series, and there's also the spin off series Samurai Warriors. Really, you can't go horribly wrong with any game since they're almost the same exact thing, save for a few notable differences among each of them of course.

A tradition among Dynasty Warrior games is death incarnate, otherwise known as Lu Bu (pictured above). Whenever he shows up on a map, stay the hell out of his way because he will END YOU. Every officer in the game tells you to not pursue him because that's just suicide. Seriously, I tried fighting him and he's pretty much a god compared to my low-level character. There are stories of people actually beating the guy though but they could be just that: stories. It doesn't matter what game, he'll be a challenge in every game you run across him, but he's beatable. But the real fun begins when you finally unlock him as a playable character!

"CAN NOBODY PROVIDE ME WITH A DECENT CHALLENGE?!" - Lu Bu

No, I'm afraid not, Lu Bu. I'm afraid not.
